이 유전자의 산물인 P2Y는6G단백 결합 수용체군에 속한다.이 계열은 여러 가지 아데노신과 우리딘 뉴클레오티드에 대해 서로 다른 약리학적 선택성을 가진 여러 수용체 아형을 가지고 있는데, 경우에 따라서는 중복되기도 한다.이 수용체는 UDP에 반응하고 UTP와 ADP에 부분적으로 반응하며 ATP에 반응하지 않는다.이 유전자에 대해 동일한 ISO 양식을 인코딩하는 4개의 대본 변형이 확인되었다.[6]
