이 유전자의 산물인 P2Y는1 G단백질 결합 수용체군에 속합니다.이 패밀리는 다양한 아데노신 및 우리딘 뉴클레오티드에 대해 서로 다른 약리학적 선택성을 가진 여러 수용체 아형을 가지고 있으며, 경우에 따라 중복된다.이 수용체는 세포외 ATP와 ADP에 대한 수용체 역할을 한다.ADP에 결합하는 혈소판에서는 포스포리파아제 C의 활성화, 혈소판 형상의 변화 및 아마도 혈소판 [6]응집을 통해 세포 내 칼슘 이온의 이동으로 이어진다.
