Death receptor 5사망수용체 5(DR5)는 TRAIL 수용체 2(TRAILR2)와 종양 괴사인자 수용체 슈퍼패밀리 멤버 10B(TNFRSF10B)로도 알려져 있으며 TNF 수용체 슈퍼패밀리의 세포표면 수용체로 TRAIL을 결합하고 세포사멸을 매개한다.
함수
이 유전자에 의해 암호화된 단백질은 TNF-수용체 슈퍼패밀리의 일원으로 세포내 사망영역을 포함하고 있다.이 수용체는 종양 괴사 인자 관련 세포사멸 유도 리간드(TNFSF10/TRAIL/APO-2L)와 변환 세포사멸 신호에 의해 활성화될 수 있다.생쥐는 인간에게 이 유전자의 기능을 설명하는데 필수적인 동질 유전자인 tnfrsf10b를 가지고 있다.FADD 결핍 마우스들을 대상으로 한 연구는 이 단백질에 의해 매개되는 세포사멸에 대해 어댑터 단백질을 포함하는 죽음의 영역인 FADD가 필요하다고 제안했다.[3]

암치료
DR5를 대상으로 하는 단핵항체가 개발되어 현재 다양한 암 유형에 시달리는 환자들을 대상으로 임상시험을 진행하고 있다(Tigatuzumab(CS-1008) 참조).
TRAIL 모사 역할을 하는 발광 이리듐 콤플렉스-펩타이드 하이브리드가 고안돼 암세포에 대한 사망수용체 DR4와 DR5를 표적으로 삼아 사멸을 유도했다.[10]
