비팔린은 히드라지드 다리로 '꼬리와 꼬리'를 연결한 앙팔린에서 파생된 두 개의 사강염으로 구성된 조광성 펩타이드(Tyr-D-Ala-Gly-Phe-NH)2이다.[1] 개의 뚜렷한 약리호르몬이 비팔린에 존재하면 μ와 Δ 오피오이드 수용체 모두에 대한 높은 친화력(μ와 Δ 수용체 모두에 대해 EC가50 약 1-5nM)을 가지므로 진통 활성이 있다.[2] 비팔린은 상당한 반흡수성을 나타낸다. 실제로 쥐에게 뇌내심실내 투여했을 때 비팔린은 초감량 알칼로이드 작용제, 에토핀, 모르핀보다 7000배 더 큰 효력을 보이며, 비팔린과 모르핀은 복강내 투여 후 비팔린과 모르핀은 비불능 상태로 판명되었다. 이 화합물이 보여주는 비범한 생체내 효력은 특히 낮은 부작용과 결합되어 만성 사용에 의존하지 않는다.[3] 이러한 이유로, 구조-활동 관계(SAR)에 대한 더 많은 정보를 얻기 위해 여러 가지 노력이 수행되었다. 반면 위치 4,4'non-aromatic과 페닐알라닌을 대체하는 결과는 분명, μ 수용체 결합 적어도 두 pharmacophores의 존재 필요한 것은 아니다;[2]Tyr1 진통제 활동에 필수적이다, 하지만 지방 친화성 아미노산을 크게, 그리고 일반적인은 무게가 4,4의 위치에 발견되는 바인딩 properties[2]을 바꾸지 않다. imp효력이 증가하고 μ/Δ 선택성이 수정된 비팔린 아날로그 설계.[4][5] 히드라지드 링커는 활동이나 결합에 기본이 되지 않으며, 순응적으로 제약을 받는 서로 다른 사이클로알리파이트 직경 링커로 편리하게 대체할 수 있다.[6]
