코르베박스는 텍사스주 휴스턴 소재 텍사스아동병원 백신개발센터와 베일러 의과대학이 개발한 단백질 서브유닛 COVID-19 백신과[1][2][3][4] 캘리포니아주 에머리빌 소재 다이나백스 기술이다.[5]인도의 바이오의약품 회사인 바이오틱 E에 허가되었다. 개발 및 생산을 위한 제한적(BioE)[6][7]

기술

백신은 SARS-CoV-2 스파이크 단백질의 수용체 결합 영역(RBD) 버전과 보조 알루미늄 수산화 겔, CpG 1018로 구성된다.[2]이 단백질은 효모 피치아 목사가 생산한다; 그 과정은 기존의 B형 간염 백신의 그것과 유사하다.[2]

제조업

미국 국제개발금융공사(DFC)는 2021년 4월 바이오E(Biological E Ltd, India) 제조능력 확충에 자금을 지원해 2022년 말까지 최소 10억개 이상의 선량을 생산할 수 있도록 하겠다고 발표했다.[8]

역사

임상시험

약 360명의 참가자를 대상으로 백신 지원자의 안전성과 면역유전성을 평가하기 위한 임상 1상이 실시되었다.[4]2단계는 2021년 4월에 종결되었다.[9][10]

2021년 4월 인도 마약통제국(Medices Controller General of India)은 백신 후보자에게 임상 3상 시작을 허가했다.18세에서 80세 사이의 총 1,268명의 건강한 참가자가 인도 전역의 15개 사이트에서 시범적으로 선정되었으며, 더 큰 글로벌 3단계 연구의 일부가 될 계획이었다.[11][10]생물학적E는 2021년 12월 현재 긍정적인 결과를 발표했지만 일부 전문가들은 3단계 임상시험에 따른 공공데이터 부족을 비판했다.[12]

2021년 12월 28일, 인도는 긴급 사용을 위한 백신을 승인했다.[13]

경제학

백신의 개발은 티토의 보드카가 100만 달러를 기부한 것을 포함해 대부분 개인 투자자들로부터 700만 달러를 지원받았다.[14][15]이 백신 기술은 비록 Baylor College가 수수료를 받지만 제조사들에게 특허가 없다.[12][16][17]

2021년 6월 3일 인도 보건가족부는 코르베박스 3억 회분을 사전 주문했다.[18]

BioE사는 백신의 가격이 1회당 250달러(약 3달러)이며 인도에서는 2회 복용 시 400달러(약 5달러) 이하로 책정될 수도 있다고 추정했다.[19]

백신은 백신접근과 형평성을 높이기 위해 저소득층 국가에서 사용할 계획으로, 기존 공정을 이용해 쉽게 보관하고 제조할 수 있도록 설계됐다.이 백신은 특허가 없으며 COVAX에 따라 공개 허가를 받을 계획이다.[12][20]

2022년 1월 코르베박스를 개발하는 과학자들은 아직 G7 국가들이 오픈소스 백신을 지원하지 않고 있다고 선언했으며, 모데르나가 훨씬 더 많은 지원을 받았다고 주장하며 코르베박스의 대량 생산과 유통을 위해 자금을 지원해 줄 것을 미국 연방정부와 G7 국가들에 거듭 요청했다.[21]
