HIOC는 선택적인 TrkB 수용체 작용제(최소 100nM에서 활성, 500nM에서 [1][2][3]두드러진 활성화)로 작용하는 소분자제이다.N-아세틸세로토닌(NAS)[2][3][4]에서 파생되었다.NAS에 비해 HIOC는 효력이 높고 반감기가 길다(쥐의 경우 NAS의 경우 약 30분 이하, HIOC는 생쥐의 경우 투여 후 최대 24시간까지 검출 가능, 생쥐의 뇌 조직에서 [2][3]HIOC의 경우 약 4시간 반감기).이는 TrkB 수용체와 [2]수용체와 관련된 다운스트림 시그널링 키나아제(down-stream signaling kinase)의 장시간 활성화를 생성하는 것으로 설명된다.HIOC는 조직적으로 활성화되어 혈액 뇌 [2]장벽에 침투할 수 있습니다.동물 연구에서 HIOC는 TrkB [3]의존적인 작용인 글루탐산 유도 흥분독성에 대해 강력하게 보호하는 것으로 밝혀졌다.
