des(1-3) IGF-1은 인슐린 유사성장인자 1(IGF-1)[1][2][3][4]의 약물과 마찬가지로 자연적으로 발생하는 내인성 단백질이며, 잘린 유사체이다. des(1-3) IGF-1은 IGF-1의 [5]N 말단에서 처음 3개의 아미노산이 결핍되어 있다(IGF-1의 70F에 비해 총 67개의 아미노산이).그 결과 인슐린 유사성장인자결합단백질(IGFBPs)에 대한 결합이 현저하게 감소하고 IGF-1에 [1][2][3][5]대한 효력(약 10배 체내)이 향상되었다.
