CatSper2는 인간에게 CATSPER2 유전자에 의해 암호화된 단백질이다.^[5]^[6]CatSper2는 단백질의 정자 계열의 양이온 채널의 일원이다.이 계열의 네 개의 단백질은 정자 세포의 정확한 기능을 위해 필수적인 Ca-permeant²⁺ 이온 채널을 형성한다.^[7]

함수

칼슘 이온은 정자의 운동성을 조절하는데 일차적인 역할을 한다.이 유전자는 정자토조아에 특유하고 편모세포에 국소화되는 첨가용 양이온 통로 계열에 속한다.단백질 계열은 6개의 막간 스패닝 세그먼트와 칼슘 선택적 모공 부위가 예측되는 단일 반복을 특징으로 한다.이 유전자는 15q15번 염색체의 탠덤 반복의 일부분이다. 이 유전자의 두 번째 복사본은 유사 유전자로 생각된다.^[8]
