초년기

자스라지는 1930년 1월 28일 하랴나 히사르 지구의 마을 필리 만도리에서 클래식 가수 겸 크리슈나 바이인 판디트 모티람에게 중산층 브라만 가문에서 태어났다.[note 1][6][7]그는 클래식 가수의 집안에서 세 아들 중 막내였다.모티람은 자스라지가 네 살이던 1934년 미르 오스만 알리 칸의 궁정에서 국가 음악가로 임명되는 날 세상을 떠났다.[8][9][10]그의 큰형은 성악가 판디트 마니람으로, 자스라지에게 부친이 세상을 떠난 후 지시하였다.자스라지의 형 판디트 프라탑 나라얀도 뛰어난 음악가로 음악 작곡가 듀오 자틴-라릿, 가수 겸 배우 술락샤나 판디트, 배우 비제타 판디트의 아버지였다.판디트 프라탑 나라얀은 자스라지에게 7세부터 타블라를 연주하라고 가르쳤으나, 자스라지는 14세까지는 노래만 부르고 싶다고 마음먹었다.[11][12]

자스라지는 젊은 시절을 하이데라바드에서 보냈으며, 메와티 가라나의 음악가들과 함께 음악을 공부하기 위해 구자라트의 사난드로 자주 여행했다.[13][14]자스라지는 클래식 음악에 심혈을 기울였던 사난드의 타쿠르 사히브인 마하라즈 제이완트 싱 와겔라를 위해 공연했고 그로부터 훈련을 받았다.[15][15][16]

사생활

트레이닝
