CK8에 대한 항체(예: CAM 5.2)는 유방의 입자암과 유방의 덕트암을 구별하는 데 사용할 수 있다.[5] CAM 5.2는 CK8과 CK18에서 모두 발견된 비피질에 반응하는 항체로서 면역화학에 사용되어 특정 형태의 암을 입증한다. 정상 조직에서는 주로 분비성 상피와 반응하지만 피부, 자궁경부, 식도 등에서 발견되는 등 편평한 상피와는 반응하지 않는다. 그러나, 그것은 또한 분비물 상피에서 파생된 세포들을 포함한 다양한 악성 세포들과 반응하지만, 또한 스핀들 세포암과 같은 일부 편평한 발암과도 반응한다. 림프절에서 유방암의 미세 전이를 확인하고, 파게트병과악성 흑색종을 구분하는 데 유용한 것으로 여겨진다. 신경내분비 종양과도 반응한다.[6]
케라틴 8은 혈액 내 순환 종양 세포를 열거하는 검사에서 상피 기원의 세포를 조혈세포와 구별하기 위해 케라틴 18, 케라틴 19와 함께 사용하는 경우가 많다.[7]
