초기 아일랜드 언어 출처는 단순히 표준 서양의 출처로부터의 번역일 뿐이기 때문에 서양의 점성술과 접촉하기 전에 초기 아일랜드 점성술의 형태가 존재했는지는 불분명하다. 역사학자 피터 버레스포드 엘리스는 AD 7세기 이후 아일랜드 점성술의 발달에 대한 증거가 있지만, 더 이른 것은 콜리니 달력 같은 대륙 켈트족의 유물을 바탕으로 추측할 수밖에 없다고 주장한다.[1]
아일랜드의 Celtic 이전의 메가리스들은 종종 태양과 달 현상과 일직선을 이루지만, 다른 문화의 점성술 체계에서 볼 수 있는 행성 기호 체계에 대한 증거는 발견되지 않았다.

We can trace the development of Irish astrology fairly easily from the 7th Century AD, when our records in Irish and Hiberno-Latin begin to survive. But for anything prior to this period we must, at this time, turn to Continental Celtic remains.
