신부 봉사는 전통적으로 인류학 문헌에 신랑에 의해 신부 가격이나 신부 가족의 일부로 제공되는 봉사로 묘사되어 왔다(지참금 참조). 신부 봉사와 신부 부자 모델은 세계 여러 지역에서 친족에 대한 인류학적 논의를 구성한다.[1]
패턴
혼수 후 거주 패턴은 물론, 일시적이거나 장기화된 신부 봉사의 관행도 아마존 유역의 원주민들에게 널리 보고되어 왔다.[2] 이 사람들 중에서 신부 예배가 종종 초초점 주거의 간격과 함께 행해진다. 초초점 거주 기간과 신부 봉사의 기간은 관련 당사자 간의 협상에 따라 결정되며, 그 결과는 영구적인 약속이나 영구적인 부채로 특징지어진다.[3][4] '받아들인다'는 자보다 아내를 '주는' 자가 휘두르는 권력도 신부 봉사의무가 만연한 사회에서의 정치 관계에서 상당한 부분을 차지하고 있다고 한다.[5][6]
개인이 물건으로 교환되는 '보상' 모델에서 친화력을 보기보다는 우라리나[7] 사람들 사이에서 아마존 신부 봉사에 대한 딘(1995)의 연구는 서로 다른 위치에 놓인 주체가 어떻게 결혼의 정치를 협상하는지를 보여준다.[8]
예
신부 예배의 예는 히브리 성경 창세기 29장 16~29절에서 나타나는데, 이때 야곱은 레이첼과 결혼하기 위해 14년간 라반을 위해 노력했다. 원래 계약은 7년이었지만 라반이 그들의 결혼식 날 레아를 주면서 야곱을 속여서 야곱은 원래 사랑에 빠졌던 소녀 레이첼을 얻기 위해 7년을 더 일해야 했다.
