구아닌 뉴클레오티드 결합 단백질 서브유닛 베타-5 는 인간에서 GNB5 유전자 에 의해 암호화된 단백질 이다.[5] 또는 다른 ISO 양식을 인코딩하는 분할된 대본 변형이 존재한다.[6]
함수 수용체와 이펙터 단백질 사이에 신호를 통합하는 이질구아닌 뉴클레오티드결합단백질(G단백질 )은 알파와 베타, 감마 서브유닛으로 구성된다. 이 하위 유니트는 관련 유전자의 가족에 의해 암호화된다. 이 유전자는 베타 서브 유닛을 암호로 한다. 베타 서브유닛은 특정 신호 전달 수용체와 이펙터뿐만 아니라 알파 서브유닛의 중요한 조절기다.[6]
GNB5는 RGS 단백질 안정성과 멤브레인 앵커 결합을 차등 제어하는 것으로 나타났으며, 따라서 복잡한 뉴런 G 단백질 신호 전달 경로의 제어에 관여한다.[7]
