역사

Aer Lingus UK는 2020년에 설립되었고 영국계 항공사로 북아일랜드 벨파스트에 본사를 두고 있다.[2] 2020년 11월까지 영국, 뉴욕 JFK, 맨체스터 공항의 기지에서 출발하는 올랜도로 구성된 최초의 계획 목적지와 함께 영국에서 미국으로 가는 대서양 횡단 항공기의 운항을 계획했다.[3][2][4] 이 항공사의 초기 비행대 계획은 두 개의 에어버스 A321로 구성되었다.LRs와 Airbus A330-300 2대 모두 모기업인 Aer Lingus로부터 이전될 예정이다.[2][4] 이 항공사는 또 다른 영국 항공사인 버진 애틀랜틱과 개념적으로 경쟁할 뿐만 아니라, 맨체스터에 본사를 두고 있고 본사가 있는 토마스 쿡 항공이 2019년 9월에 운항을 중단한 공백의 일부를 채울 것이다.[5]

이 항공사는 2020년 12월 미국 교통부(USDOT)에 외국계 항공사 허가를 신청해 2021년 3월 승인됐다.[5][6] 모기업인 에어링거스는 이어 2021년 3월 24일 영국 에어링거스가 운영하는 맨체스터 기종의 항공편이 2021년 7월 29일 뉴욕 JFK와 올랜도, 2021년 10월 20일 바베이도스, 2022년 여름 보스턴으로 취항한다고 발표했다.[7][8] 항공사는 2021년 6월 유럽과 미국 간 국경 개통이 예상보다 늦어질 것으로 보고 뉴욕JFK와 올랜도 노선 취항이 2021년 9월 30일로 연기될 것이라고 발표했다.[9]

2021년 7월 8일, Aer Lingus UK는 영국 CAA로부터 항공 운영자 인증서(AOC)를 수여받았다.[10][11] 항공사는 또한 신청 승인을 위해 USDOT에 AOC를 제출하였다.[11] 항공사는 AOC를 인수하기 며칠 전 모회사인 에어링거스에서 A330-300 1대를 공식 양도했으며, Air Lingus에서 1대의 Airbus A321LR과 추가 Airbus A330-300을 양도했다.[12] 2021년 8월 25일, 미국행 항공사의 취항이 2021년 12월로 연기되는 등, 항공사의 미국행 운행이 다시 연기되었다.[13] 에어링구스 UK의 바베이도스행 정기편 운항은 영향을 받지 않았으며, 2021년 10월 20일 노선이 취항하면서 항공사 운행이 시작됐다.[14]
