모술은 이라크에서 두 번째로 인구가 많은 도시입니다. 시아파 이라크 정부에 대한 수니파 주민들의 깊은 불신 때문에 2014년 6월 ISIL 무장세력 800~1,500명으로 떨어졌습니다.[30][87] ISIL 지도자 아부 바크르 알바그다디가 이라크와 시리아에 걸쳐 있는 ISIL의 자칭 '칼리프'의 시작을 선언한 것은 모술의 대모스크에서였습니다.[87] ISIL 통치 2년 만에 원래 인구 250만 명이 약 150만 명으로 떨어졌습니다. 이 도시는 한때 극단적으로 다양했는데, 아르메니아인, 야지디스인, 아시리아인, 투르크멘인, 샤바크인 등 소수 민족들이 이슬람 국가의 지배를 받아 고통을 겪었습니다.[88] 모술은 이라크에서 ISIL의 마지막 거점이었고,[89] 이를 되찾기 위한 예상되는 공세는 "모든 전투의 어머니"라고 선전했습니다.[90][91][92][93]

2016년 10월 : 1단계 및 초기 발전

2016년 10월 18일 이라크 마흐무르 인근에서 이라크 보안군이 BMP-1 보병전투차 2대를 제313이동통제대 전방부대의 지원을 받아 전술조립지역으로 수송하고 있습니다.

8월

ISIL의 학대, 유괴, 만행
