네메토나

'신성한 숲의 그녀'인 네메토나는 북동쪽 가울에 뿌리를 둔 켈트족의 여신이다. 그녀는 네메트로 알려진 게르마노-셀틱 민족의 영예로운 신으로 여겨지고 있다;^[2][3] 그녀의 숭배의 증거는 미들라인^[1][4] 강을 따라 있던 그들의 예전 영토뿐만 아니라 오늘날의 독일 트리어의 알트바흐탈 성역에서도 발견된다.^[3][2][5] 그녀는 갈릭 트레베리족의 한 남자가 그녀에게 제단을 바친 영국 배스에서도 증언하고 있다.^[2][6]

어원

네메토나의 이름은 켈트족의 뿌리 네메토-에서 따온 것으로, 성스러운 종교 공간, 특히 신성한 숲들을 가리킨다.^[3][2] 그녀는 야외 예배 장소의 수호 여신으로 여겨져 왔다.^[7] 로마노-영국의 여신 아르네메티아와^[2] 마트레스 네메티알레스(그르노블에 새겨진 글에서 알 수 있음)의 이름에서도 같은 뿌리가 발견된다.^[3]

비문

살아남은 비문들은 종종 네메토나를 화성(때로는 켈트족 이름 루케티우스)과 연관시킨다. 베스의 비문에는 "루케티우스 화성"과, 트리에르와 알트립의 "마스"와 짝을 이룬다.^[2][5][1] 네메토나와 루케티우스에게 보내는 별도의 비문은 마인츠 근처의 클라인-윈터하임에서 같은 장소에서 회수되었다.^[8][9] 알트립 유적지는 여신의 테라코타 묘사로 더욱 유명했다.^[2]

아이젠버그의 한 비문은 네메토나와 빅토리아를 동일시하는 것으로 보인다.^[4]

노에미 벡은 네메인과 네메토나를 동일시하는 것을 "정확하지 않고 무관하다"고 여긴다.^[10]
