1959년 1월 알래스카가 연방에 입성한 이후, 16번의 미국 대통령 선거에 참여하여 항상 3명의 선거인단을 보유하고 있다.[1][2]1960년 대선에서 알래스카는 공화당 후보와 현직 부통령인 리처드 닉슨에게 근소한 차이로 승리해 민주당의 존 F 후보를 눌렀다. 케네디는 1.88%(1,144표)에 불과했다.[3][4]1964년 대선에서 민주당 린든 B 후보. 존슨은 전국적인 민주당 압승으로 알래스카를 이겼다.[5][6]1964년 선거 이후 알래스카는 대선 때마다 공화당이 승리했다.[7]

1984년 대선에서 공화당의 로널드 레이건 후보가 알래스카를 36.78%[8] 차로 누르고 승리해 주 역사상 가장 큰 표차로 남아 있다.1992년 대선에서 무소속 후보였던 로스 페롯은 알래스카에서 제3당 후보가 얻은 역대 최다 득표율(28.43%)[9]을 기록했다.여러 뉴스 기관들은 알래스카를 안전한 공화당 주라고 묘사했다.[10][11][12]
