이 유전자는 페닐알라닌 히드록시화에 관여하는 효소인 pterin-4 알파-카르비놀아민 탈수효소를 인코딩한다.이 효소의 결핍은 고페닐알라닌혈증으로 이어진다.효소는 전사 인자 간세포 핵 인자 1(HNF1)의 호모디메르화를 조절한다.[6]null
