방추형성에 있어 적어도 두 가지 뚜렷한 역할을 한다. 즉, 키네토코어 미세관을 MCAK(KIF2C )에 의한 탈중합으로부터 보호하고, ch-Tog는 MCAK [9] 활성과는 무관한 기능인 중심체 미세관 조립에서 필수적인 역할을 한다.
