핵원소 1(PANE1) 증식 관련 물질로 알려진 센트롬레 단백질 M은 인간에서 CENPM 유전자에 의해 인코딩되는 단백질이다.^[5]^[6]^[7]

CENPM 유전자의 대체 기록은 B-림프모이드 세포로 선택적으로 표현되는 백혈구 항원을 암호화한다.^[8]^[9] 센트로메르 단백질 M은 센트로메르 조립과 면역 반응에 관여한다.^[10]
