올루와토인 루스 '토인' 살라우(2000년 8월 27일~2020년 6월)는 미국의 여성 운동가로, 성폭행을 당했다는 트윗 직후인 2020년 6월 6일 토요일 실종됐다. 살라우는 2020년 6월 13일 토요일 플로리다 주 탈라하시에서 살해된 채 발견됐으며,[2][3][4] 2020년 6월 15일 월요일 사망이 확정됐다.[4]

살라우는 플로리다주 탈라하시에서 열린 2020년 흑인 생명체 시위에 적극 참여했으며, 이 시위에 '신흥적인 지도자'[5]이자 '약진적인 목소리'[6]라고 표현했다. 그녀는 특히 토니 맥데드를 대표하여 주창했었다.[5]

초년기

살라우는 2000년 8월 27일 플로리다 탈라하시에서 태어났다.[7] 그녀는 요루바가 모국어인 나이지리아계 미국인이었다.[8][9][10] 독실한 기독교 신자였던 그녀는 자라면서 교회 성가대의 최연소 단원이었다.[7]

살라우는 탈라하시에 있는 벅 레이크 초등학교와 스위프트 크릭 중학교에 다녔고,[7] 2018년 링컨 고등학교를 졸업했다.[11] 졸업 후, 그녀는 Lively Technical College에서 미용학을 공부했고, 헤어드레싱과 모델 일을 동시에 시작했다.[7] 2019년 살라우는 플로리다 A&M 대학교에서 법학을 공부할 계획으로 아직 Lively에 있는 동안 탈라하시 커뮤니티 칼리지에 등록했다.[7]

실종 직전인 2020년 6월 6일 트위터에 '불공정한 생활환경'[13] 때문에 '난민'을 찾는 교회에 다시 태워주겠다고 했다가 흑인 남성에게 성폭행을 당했다는 글을 올렸다. 그녀는 2020년 6월 10일에 마지막으로 살아있는 것이 목격되었다.[14]

지역사회 주민들과 탈라하시 주민대책위원회, 탈라하시 경찰서의 수색 결과,[15][16][17][18][19] 그녀의 시신은 2020년[3][20] 6월 14일 오후 9시 15분경 탈라하시 남동부 월요 부근에서 발견됐다.[21] 살라우의 시신은 지역 정치에 적극적이었던 75세의 빅토리아 심스의 시체와 함께 발견되었다.[21][22]

살라우는 탈라하시에 있는 오클랜드 묘지에 묻혔다.[10]

용의자

살라우의 죽음의 용의자 아론 글리 주니어는 6월 14일 이른 시간 플로리다 주 올랜도에서 체포되어 살인 및 납치 혐의로 기소되었다.[19] 글리는 나중에 살라우의 살인과 강간 사건을 자백했다.[23]

살라우와 심스의 시신은 전날 밤 탈라하시에 있는 그의 임대주택 근처에서 발견되었다. 그는 한 경찰관이 여성의 성접대를 거부하자 여성의 배를 발로 차는 것을 본 지 한 달도 채 되지 않아 가중치 부여로 체포되었다.[24]
