KMPlayer는 강용휴(한국어: 용희))가 개발하여 2002년 [1]10월 1일 정식 출시하였다.2008년 3월 5일, KMPlayer's Forum은 KMPlayer가 2007년 [5]8월에 한국의 스트리밍 비디오 회사인 Pandora TV에 인수되었다고 발표했다.

명명
