핵공 복합체는 핵과 세포질 사이의 고분자의 흐름을 조절하는 관문을 형성하는 핵 외피를 가로질러 뻗어 있는 거대한 구조이다. 뉴클레오폴린은 진핵세포에서 핵공 복합체의 주요 구성요소이다. 이 유전자에 의해 코드된 단백질은 importin-alpha:beta 매개 핵단백질 수입의 가용성 보조인자로 기능하는 뉴클레오포린을 포함하는 FG-반복의 구성원이다. 이 유전자의 유사 유전자는 5, 6, 14번 염색체에서 발견됩니다. 이 [6] 유전자에 대해 서로 다른 아이소폼을 코드하는 두 개의 전사 변형이 발견되었다.
