세포농업학회(CAS)는 세포농업을 연구, 자금조달 및 발전시키기 위해 2017년 설립된 마이애미 소재 국제 501(c)(3) 조직이다.null
세포 농업은 살아있는 동물에서가 아니라 세포에서 동물 제품을 생산하는 새로운 과학이다.[1]null
셀룰러 농업(Celleral Farming, Cell-Ag)은 육류, 우유,[2] 달걀, 가죽,[3] 비단, 심지어 동물 세포에서 나오는 코뿔소 뿔까지 포함한 식품과 다른 동물 제품을 적극적으로 개발하고 있다.null
세포 농업은 생명공학을 이용하여 현재 살아있는 조직에서 수확된 동물 생산물을 생산한다.[4]과학이 동물 자체에 해를 끼치지 않고 동물 제품에 대한 수요를 충족시킬 수 있는 수확되지 않은 고기와 동물 제품을 만드는 방향으로 발전할 것으로 기대된다.[5]null
세포 농업[6] 과학은 다음 두 가지 기법을 기반으로 진화하고 있다.
- 조직 엔지니어링(실험실에서 조직을 배양)
- 발효(미생물을 사용하는 것은 단백질을 유도한다.
이 과정은 일부 정부(프랑스, 호주, 그리고 가장 최근 미주리 주) 단체들이 공식적으로 '고기'[7]라고 불릴 수 있는 것을 놓고 갈등을 빚고 있어 논란이 되고 있다.null
