애쉬브룩은 달 저편에 있는 남극 근처에 위치한 커다란 달 충돌 분화구로 지구에서 직접 볼 수 없다.분화구의 동쪽 면은 비슷한 크기의 드라이갈스키에 의해 겹쳐져 있고, 아스브룩의 내부 바닥의 절반 이상이 드라이갈스키의 외벽과 이젝타로 덮여 있다.북서쪽으로는 성벽으로 둘러싸인 평원 지만이 있다.

비록 원래의 형성의 많은 부분이 여전히 눈에 보이기는 하지만, 애쉬브룩의 살아남은 외측 테두리는 그 후의 충격에 의해 마모되고 침식된다.만약 이 분화구가 한때 중심 봉우리를 가지고 있었다면, 지금은 드라이갈스키에서 나온 이젝타에 의해 매장된다.남서쪽 테두리 부근의 내부 바닥의 한 부분만이 평평하고, 작은 분화구로만 표시되어 있다.

이 분화구는 IAU에 의해 이름이 할당되기 전에 이전에 Drygalski Q로 지정되었다.
