앤더슨은 달의 저편에 위치한 달 충돌 분화구다.샤로노프 분화구의 북서쪽에 위치하며, 위성 분화구 샤라노프 X가 앤더슨 남동쪽 테두리에 붙어 있다.북동쪽에는 Buys-Ballot이라는 독특한 형성이 있고, 북동쪽에는 더 큰 분화구인 스펜서 존스가 있다.

앤더슨의 바깥 테두리는 심하게 마모되어 있으며 침식되어 있다.작은 분화구가 남동쪽과 남서쪽 가장자리에 걸쳐 있다.내부는 비교적 평평하며, 바닥의 일부를 덮는 여러 개의 작은 분화구가 있다.그 중 가장 두드러진 것은 남동쪽 림 근처에 위치한 앤더슨 L이다.앤더슨 L은 흔히 앤더슨 핑거로도 알려져 있다.

분화구는 프룬드리히-샤로노프 분지 내에 있다.

관례에 따라 이러한 특징들은 달 지도에서 앤더슨에 가장 가까운 분화구 중간 지점의 측면에 글자를 배치함으로써 확인된다.
