Physeter는 이빨고래의 한 속이다.이 속에는 향유고래(Physeter macrocephalus)[2]가 하나밖에 없습니다.프랑스 [3]플리오센의 Physeter Antiqueus(5.3~2.6mya)와 조지아 [4]4분의 1의 Physeter vetus(2.6mya~12ka)를 포함한 매우 잘 알려지지 않은 화석 종들도 같은 속으로 분류되었다.이 종을 식별하기 위해 사용된 몇 개의 이빨이 다른 이빨 고래인 Orycterocetus 쿼드라티덴과 [5]동일한 것으로 보이기 때문에, Physeter vetus는 매우 유효하지 않은 종일 가능성이 높다.
