Messapicetus는 마이오세 말기에 멸종된 부리 고래의 한 속이다.현재는 이탈리아의 토르토니아에서[1] 온 M. longirostris와 [2]페루의 피스코 층에서 온 M. gregarius 두 종을 보유하고 있다.하지만, 세 번째 이름 없는 종이 세인트루이스에 나타난다. 메릴랜드의 Marys Formation은 단편적인 [3]자료로 알려져 있다.M. gregarius는 성적으로 이형성이며, 수컷은 상아를 가지고 있으며, 현존하는 [4]부리고래처럼 짝을 위한 종내 싸움에 사용된 것으로 추측된다.
