역사

누스케일은 미국 에너지부(DOE)가 자금을 지원하고 오리건 주립대학과 아이다호 국립 연구소의 핵 과학자 팀이 수행한 연구를 기반으로 2000년부터 설립되었습니다.[8][9][10] 오리건주 원자력부는 원자력 발전소에서 냉각을 위한 수동적인 물 순환 기술을 개발해 왔습니다.[11] DOE는 2000년부터 2003년까지 이 연구를 설립했습니다.

아이다호의 탄소 배출 없는 전력 프로젝트

2023년 11월, UAMPS는 비용 상승으로 인해 프로젝트가 지속될 만큼 충분한 구독이 불가능할 것이라고 발표했고, UAMPS와 NuScale은 공동으로 프로젝트를 취소하기로 결정했습니다.[43][7] POWER 잡지는 이 프로젝트가 취소될 때까지 2억 3,200만 달러의 DOE 재정 지원을 받았다고 보도했습니다.[44]

2022년 2월, 누스케일과 광산 대기업 KGHM은 2029년까지 폴란드에 SMR을 건설하기로 계약을 발표했습니다.[53] 12-모듈, 924-MWe 플랜트 설계는 $64/MWh(¢ 6.4/kWh)의 LCOE를 가질 수 있습니다. 두산에너지는 지난 4월 파워모듈 부품 생산을 시작하기로 계약했습니다. 두산에너지는 2023년 하반기에 한국 창원 공장에서 본격적인 생산에 도달할 것으로 예상했습니다.[54][55]

2022년 7월 28일, NRC는 NuScale의 소형 모듈식 원자로를 인증할 것이라고 발표했습니다.[56]

2022년 12월 28일, 루마니아의 RoPower Nuclear는 Front-End Engineering and Design을 계약했습니다. 장소는 도이세스티로 예상됩니다. RoPower는 Nuclear Electrica와 Novel Power & Gas의 합작 회사입니다.[57]

NuScale 원자로는 기존 원자로 공간의 1%를 차지하며 77MWe를 생산합니다.[59][60][61] 디자인은 기존 원전과 마찬가지로 냉각과 발전을 위해 경수를 사용합니다. 물은 원자로 용기의 바닥에 있는 핵심에 의해 가열됩니다. 가열된 물은 상승기를 타고, 증기 발생기를 타고 흘러갑니다. 열이 전달됨에 따라 물이 냉각되고 밀도가 높아져 장치 바닥으로 가라앉고 사이클이 반복됩니다. 열은 터빈을 돌리는 증기를 만들어 전기 발전기를 구동합니다.[11][26][62]

원자로 용기의 첫 번째 버전은 직경 9피트(2.7m), 높이 65피트(20m)로 650톤(590미터톤)의 짧은 무게가 될 것으로 예상되었습니다.[26] 모듈은 미리 제작되어 레일, 바지선 또는 트럭으로[63] 배송되며 현장에서 조립됩니다.[21][64][65][66] 2021년 기준으로 이 장치는 77MWe(총생산), 즉 약 73.5MWe(순)를 생산할 것으로 예상되며 [59][67][68][a]2년마다 표준 4.95%의 저농축 우라늄-235 연료로 연료를 보충해야 합니다.[26]

NuScale의 설계는 동력식 워터 펌프나 순환 장비에 의존하지 않습니다.[8][11] 원자로는 대부분의 사고 중에 작동을 중단하고 스스로를 무한정 냉각시키도록 설계되었습니다.[11][b] 이 장치들은 지진 충격을 흡수하기 위해 지하 수영장에 설치될 예정이며, 수영장 위에는 콘크리트 뚜껑이 있습니다.[70] 정상적인 냉각 시스템을 위해 전력이 손실될 경우 수영장의 물이 열을 흡수하여 끓게 됩니다. 수영장은 수동 보충 없이 원자로 노심을 무제한으로 안전하게 냉각할 수 있는 충분한 물을 저장합니다.[11]

정상 작동 조건에서는 원자로 용기 압력이 진공에 가까워 대류를 제거하여 보다 간단한 열 전달 조건을 제공합니다. 또한 부품 부식을 줄이고 계측 신뢰성을 향상시킵니다.[11]

원자로는 콘크리트 벽으로 분리된 개별 베이의 원자로 풀에 설치됩니다. 연료 공급을 위해 전체 원자로는 이송 채널을 통해 연료 공급 장비가 있는 연결된 풀로 수중으로 이동됩니다. 예비 모듈의 유지 보수 또는 보관을 위한 여분의 원자로 베이도 있습니다. 12-반응기 발전소에서 베이는 6개의 반응기로 구성된 두 줄로 배열되며, 두 줄 사이에는 이송 채널이 중앙에 있습니다.[11]

비교
