켄트는 영국의 남동쪽 구석에 있는 군이다.대런던템즈강 하구에 의해 북쪽으로, 서섹스서리에 의해 서쪽으로, 영국 해협북해에 의해 남쪽과 동쪽으로 경계를 이룬다.카운티 도시는 메이드스톤이다.[1]켄트 카운티 의회가 관할하며, 12개 구의회, 애쉬포드, 캔터베리, 다트포드, 도버, 포크스톤과 하이테, 그레이브스햄, 메이드스톤, 테닛, 톤브리지, 맬링툰브리지 웰스가 있다.메드웨이는 별도의 단일 관할 기관이다.[2][3]노스 다운스 산맥의 분필 언덕은 동쪽에서 서쪽으로 군내를 지나 숲이 우거진 웨알드를 남쪽으로 뻗어 있다.해안선은 평평하고 절벽이 번갈아 가며 늘어서 있다.[1]

영국에서는 영국의 자연환경 보호를 담당하는 Natural England특수과학적 관심장소(SSI)를 지정한다.SSSI로 지정되면 가장 중요한 야생동물과 지질학적 지역에 법적 보호가 주어진다.[4]2018년 5월 현재 켄트에는 98개소가 지정되어 있다.[5]지질학적 관심사로 지정된 곳은 21곳, 생물학적 관심사로 지정된 곳은 67곳, 두 가지 이유로 모두 10곳이다.

16개소는 특별보전지역, 8개소는 특별보호지역, 23개소는 자연보전심의지역, 33개소는 지질보전심의지역, 11개소는 국가자연보전심의지역, 9개소는 람사르국제적으로 중요한 습지지역, 11개소는 지방자연보전지역, 13개소는 아웃스타지역이다.자연미인, 하나는 영국의 역사공원과 특별한 역사적 관심의 정원 목록에 있고, 2개는 예정된 기념물들을 포함하고 있다.17곳은 켄트야생동물신탁이 관리하고 있으며, 4곳은 영국왕립새보호협회, 7곳은 국립신탁이 관리하고 있다.
