베드퍼드셔 주(Bedfordshire)는 잉글랜드 동부에 있는 군이다.[1]남동쪽으로는 허트포드셔, 북동쪽으로는 캠브리지셔, 북쪽으로는 노샘프턴셔, 서쪽으로는 버킹햄셔로 경계를 이루고 있다.[2]면적은 1,235 평방 킬로미터(477 평방 미)이며, 2015년 인구는 63만 명으로 추정되며, 이전 10년 동안 10%가 증가했다.[3]카운티 타운은 베드포드(Bedford)이며, 그 이름은 알프레드 대왕구스럼(Guthrum) 사이에 약 879년 조약에 처음 기록되어 있는데, 이 조약은 베드포드를 통과하는 선으로 영어와 덴마크의 영토를 나누었다.[4]

베드포드샤이어에는 자연 잉글랜드가 지정한 40개의 특별 과학 관심 사이트(SSI)가 있다.생물학적 관심사는 35개, 지질학적 관심사는 5개다.[6]이 유적지 중 3곳 역시 국립자연보호구역으로 12곳이 우수자연미인 칠턴스 지역에 있으며 11곳은 베드퍼드셔, 캠브리지셔, 노샘프턴셔를 위한 야생동물 트러스트(Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgesshire, Northamptonshire)에 의해 전부 또는 일부가 관리되고 있다.2009년에 베드포드셔는 세 개의 단일 지역 당국으로 나뉘었다: 32개의 사이트가 센트럴 베드포드셔에 있고, 8개는 베드포드, 그리고 아무도 루턴에 있지 않다.
