그리스 정교회 (그리스어: ἑ λληνορθόδοξη ἐ κκλησία, 엘리노르토독시 에클리시아, IPA:[elinor ˈθo ðoksi ekli ˈsia]는 그리스 기독교 또는 동로마 제국과 어떤 방식으로든 연관된 세 종류의 교회 중 하나를 지칭할 수 있는 기독교 용어입니다.

더 넓은 의미는 " 때때로 '동정교', '그리스 가톨릭', 또는 일반적으로 '그리스 교회'라고도 불리는 정통(칼케도니아) 기독교의 전체"를 의미합니다.

두 번째로 좁은 의미는 "그리스어공식적인 기독교적 환경에서 사용하는 (동방) 정교회의 전 세계적인 연합 내의 여러 독립 교회"를 의미합니다.[1]

세 번째 의미는 그리스의 현대 국경선 안에서 활동하는 동방정교회인 그리스 교회를 의미합니다.

어원

역사적으로 그리스 정교회라는 용어는 비잔틴 제국의 유산을 의미할 수 있기 때문에 모든 동방 정교회를 설명하는 데 사용되었습니다.[2][3][4] 기독교 역사의 첫 8세기 동안, 기독교 교회의 대부분의 주요한 지적인, 문화적인, 그리고 사회적인 발전은 그리스어가 널리 쓰이고 대부분의 신학적인 저술에 사용되었던 [4][5][6]비잔틴 제국 또는 그 영향권에서 일어났습니다. 제국의 수도 콘스탄티노플은 초기 기독교의 중요한 중심지였으며, 동방 정교회를 통해 전례와 전통, 교리가 점차 채택되어 여전히 현대 정교회의 기본 패턴을 제공하고 있습니다.[7][8][9] 그래서 서양의 기독교인들이 로마 가톨릭 신자로 불리게 된 것과 같은 방식으로 동방 정교회는 "그리스" 정교회라고 불리게 되었습니다. 그러나 슬라브와 다른 동방 정교회들은 일찍이 서기 10세기부터 민족의 국가적 각성의 일환으로 "그리스"라는 명칭을 포기했습니다.[10][11][12] 따라서 21세기 초에는 일반적으로 그리스나 비잔틴 문화와 민족성과 가장 밀접하게 관련된 교회만을 통칭하여 "그리스 정교회"라고 불렀습니다.[13]
