2019년 저명한 서체 블로거 제이슨 코트케는 위의 허가 구조는 개인이 상징을 이용해 자신만의 의복과 간판을 만들 수 있지만 비영리단체는 상징으로 판매할 품목을 대량 생산할 수 있는 자금을 조달하거나 규모의 경제를 사용할 수 없다는 것을 의미한다고 말했다.[16]

2019년 ESP는 에코허슬러와의 이메일 인터뷰에서 "2011년 초에는 무작위로 디자인을 스케치하고 있었을 뿐인데 기호를 그리자마자 그것이 무엇인지 알았다"[1][2]고 제작 소감을 밝혔다.

ESP는 지구를 나타내기 위해 원을 선택했고, 그 시간을 나타내기 위해 양식화된 모래시계를 선택했다고 말했다.[11][17][2][13] 제럴드 홀톰의 흑백 원형 평화표지(CND 핵군축 기호)와의 유사성은 아나키스트들이 사용하는 원형 흑백 서클-A 기호와 유사하다는 점에서 주목된다.[18][1][19] 다른 해설자들은 "X"를 "Go-no-furter" 또는 정지 신호로 강조하였다.[18]

영국의 세라믹 아티스트 캐리 라이차르트는 2016년 작품 '비즈'에서 이 상징을 선보였다.[2][5] 소멸 공은 크리스텔 부와 줄리안 올리버가 이 상징을 핵심 작품으로 내세운 예술 작품으로 2018년 사라져가는 유산의 일부였다. 베를린에서 열린 숲 속의 세계 전시회.[31]

2019년 4월 런던 마블아치의 뱅크시 화백으로 추정되는 작품에는 멸종 상징물을 들고 있는 어린아이가 등장한다.[29][5]

2019년 7월 빅토리아 앨버트 박물관은 2011년 런던 스트리트 아티스트 ESP가 처음 디자인한 멸종 상징물을 한정적이지만 '펀치(punchy)' 컬러 팔레트와 세심하게 쓰인 슬로건까지 다양한 유물을 소장하고 있다.그녀는 이 단체가 기후 비상사태에 대한 우려를 누그러뜨리기 위해 디자인을 사용했다고 말했다.[6][7][8]
