시보트 힐즈는 캘리포니아 주 로스앤젤레스 시의 웨스트사이드에 있는 단독주택 밀집 지역이다.

1924년에 설립된 이 동네는 폭스 스튜디오와 소니 스튜디오 사이의 편리한 위치 때문에 수많은 영화와 텔레비전 쇼의 촬영지였다. 이 동네에는 오래 전부터 많은 배우, 텔레비전 유명인사, 스튜디오 임원들이 살고 있었다.[1]

지리

뉴욕타임스(NYT)에 따르면 쉐보힐스는 란초파크 골프장과 힐크레스트 컨트리클럽의 북방한계선을, 서남쪽으로는 패트리샤 애비뉴와 매닝 애비뉴, 동쪽과 남동쪽으로는 베버윌 드라이브와 캐슬 하이츠 애비뉴가 경계를 이루고 있다.[2]

인구

2000년 미국 인구 조사 결과 시보힐스 인근 1.54평방마일(평방마일)에 거주하는 주민은 6,945명으로 집계됐으며 이는 시보시티의 최저 밀도 중 1평방마일(평방마일)당 평균 4,520명이었다. 에이커리지는 시보트힐스파크, 란초파크골프장, 힐크레스트CC 등의 공터로 2008년 인구가 7303명으로 늘어난 것으로 시는 추정했다. 주민의 중위연령은 42세로 도시 전체보다 나이가 많으며, 50~64세 주민의 비율이 군에서 가장 높았다.[3]

이 동네는 인종적으로 "특별히 다양하지 않다"고 여겨졌는데, 로스앤젤레스의 다른 지역들에 비해 백인의 비율이 높았다. 인구는 비 히스패닉 화이트 78.8%, 아시아 9.1%, 히스패닉 또는 라틴계 8.3%, 흑인 1.3%, 기타 2.5%로 나타났다. 일본(8.8%)과 멕시코(7.7%)가 해외에서 태어난 주민의 20.8%가 가장 많은 출생지로 LA의 낮은 수치를 고려했다.[3]

2008년 1년 평균 가구소득은 11만1813달러로 로스앤젤레스의 높은 수치였고 카운티에서는 12만5000달러 이상을 버는 가구의 비율이 높게 평가됐다. 시·군 모두 평균 2.2명의 가구 규모가 낮았다. 임대인은 주택 주식의 35.7%를 차지했고 주택 소유자나 아파트 소유자는 64.3%[3]를 차지했다.

제2차 세계대전이나 한국전쟁 때 참전했던 참전용사의 비율은 이 카운티에서 가장 높았다.[3]

역사

오늘날 시보트 힐스의 거의 대부분은 란초 린콘 드 로스 부에예스로 알려진 스페인 토지 보조금 안에 있었다.[10] 1920년대까지 크게 개발되지 않은, 모터 에비뉴 서쪽 주택 구역의 초기 건설은 1920년대에 시작되었다.[11][12][13][14] 1920년대부터 1953년까지 태평양 전기 철도의 산타 모니카 항공선으로 알려진 전차 노선은 시보트 힐즈의 남쪽 가장자리를 따라 운행되었고, 시보트 힐스와 로스앤젤레스 시내, 산타 모니카 시내 사이의 여객 서비스를 제공했다.[15][16] 모터 에비뉴 동부와 포레스터 드라이브 남부의 상당 부분은 구 캘리포니아 컨트리 클럽의 부지에 지어졌으며 거주지는 1950년대 초까지 거슬러 올라간다.[14][17] 인근에는 라파엘 소리아노의 스트라우스-르위스 하우스와 월리스 네프가 설계한 해리 컬버 에스테이트 등 저명한 건축가의 주택이 여러 채 있다.[18][19]

이 동네는 원래 중산층이었는데, 1926년 주택 가격은 현재 5만 달러,[8] 즉 약 66만 3천 달러부터 시작했다.[20] 그러나 최근 몇 년 사이 가격이 급격히 상승하여 지금은 이웃한 베벌리힐스, 벨에어, 홀미힐스 등과 어깨를 나란히 하며,[21] 그 결과 이 동네의 1920년대의 많은 주택들을 희생시키면서 새로운 개발이 급증하고 있다. 그 결과 시보트 힐즈는 2014년 미국에서 부동산으로 레드핀의 '핫'한 동네,[22] 2015년 로스앤젤레스에서 가장 핫한 동네로 선정되었다.[23] 2015년 시티랩은 미국에서 24번째로 임대료가 비싼 동네로 시비오 힐스를 선정했다.[24]

몬테마르 비스타

1926년과 1940년 사이에 개발된 몬테마르 비스타는 시보트 힐스에서 가장 부유한 지역이다.[25][26] 이 동네는 원래 W.R. 맥코넬, 프레드 W.에 의해 개발되었다. 시보트 힐즈는 시보트 힐즈 파크, 시보트 힐즈 레크리에이션 센터, 시보트 힐즈 테니스 코트, 란초 파크 골프 코스를 특징으로 한다.[40][41] 공원 및 레크리에이션 센터에는 80~100명 규모의 커뮤니티 룸이 있다. 그 외에도 강당, 바비큐 구덩이, 불붙인 야구 다이아몬드, 불붙지 않은 야구 다이아몬드, 불이 켜진 실내 농구 코트, 불이 켜진 야외 농구 코트, 어린이 놀이 공간, 역기 없는 실내 체육관, 피크닉 테이블, 불이 켜진 배구 코트 등이 있다.[41] 시보트 힐스 테니스 코트는 14개의 불이 켜진 테니스 코트로 구성되어 있다.[42] 시보트 힐즈 풀은 시보트 힐스에 있는 야외의 난방되지 않은 계절 수영장이다.[43] 2012년 5월 11일, 버락 오바마 대통령은 배우 조지 클루니의 인근 자택에서 선거 자금 모금 행사를 마친 후, 시보힐스 레크리에이션 센터에서 클루니, 배우 토비 맥과이어 등과 농구 경기를 했다.[44]

인근에 개인 컨트리 클럽도 2개 있는데, 두 클럽 모두 당시 LA 클럽의 회원 차별에 대응해 설립됐다. 힐크레스트 컨트리 클럽은 1920년에 유대인을 위한 컨트리 클럽으로 설립되었고, 그 후 다른 클럽에서 크게 제외되었다.[45] 18홀짜리 골프장, 테니스장, 수영장 등이 특징이다.[46] 이전에 비벌리힐스 컨트리 클럽으로 알려진 그리핀 클럽은 1926년에 설립되었으며, 원래 연예계에서 일하는 사람들을 위한 것으로, 당시 대부분의 로스앤젤레스 클럽에서도 제외되었다. 그곳에는 테니스 코트와 수영장이 있다.[47][48][49] 과거에는 이 동네에도 캘리포니아 컨트리 클럽이 있었는데, 1952년에 캘리포니아 컨트리 클럽 에스테이트라고 불리는 개발로 대체되었다.[30] 동네 중심부에 [50]클럽서클파크라는 작은 공원이 있고, 외곽에는 놀이터인 어빙 섀커 파크도 있다.[51]
