메타노코쿠스는 메타노코쿠스과의 코코이드 메타노균의 속이다.[1]열성 M. 열석영양증과 초열성 M. 자나스키를 제외한 모두 중음유족이다.후자는 동태평양 상승기[2] 21°N에 있는 "흰색 흡연자" 굴뚝 밑부분에서 발견되었으며, 그것은 완전히 배열된 최초의 고고학적 게놈으로, 많은 새로운 원소들과 진핵생물 같은 원소들을 밝혀냈다.[3]
