'변화를 위한 독립 그룹(Independent Group for Change UK)'은 2019년 총선에서 소속 의원들이 모두 의석을 잃은 직후인 2019년 2월 창당한 친유럽연합(친유럽연합) 정당이었다.유럽연합(EU) 가입에 대한 2차 국민투표에 찬성하는 것이 주요 정책이었다.

역사

정당등록

이 단체는 2019년 5월 유럽의회 선거에 영국이 참여할 경우 후보를 지지할 수 있도록 선거관리위원회에 '영국 변경-독립그룹'이라는 이름으로 정당 등록을 신청했다고 2019년 3월 밝혔다.[29][30]하이디 알렌은 2019년 9월로 예정된 창당대회를 앞두고 임시 지도자로 임명되었다.[31]

등록은 2019년 4월 15일 선거관리위원회에서 확정됐다.[32]그러나 당사자가 제안한 엠블럼은 TIG 약자를 포함하지 않은 것과 해시태그 사용으로 인해 위원회에 의해 거부되었다.[33][34]

2019년 4월 15일, 2017년 결성되었으나 의석 확보에 실패한 중도신당 '리뉴얼 파티'가 유럽 선거에서 Change UK – The Independent Group을 지지한다고 발표했다.Change UK는 이러한 움직임을 환영하며 Change UK 후보가 되기 위한 Renew 승인 후보자들의 신청을 받아들일 것이라고 말했다.[35]

유럽의회 선거

2019년 4월 16일, MEPs Julie Girling과 Richard Ashworth가 Change UK에 합류했다고 발표되었다.[34]두 MEP는 모두 보수당에 당선됐으나 브렉시트 협상에 진전이 없어 무역협상을 시작할 수 없다는 유럽의회 발의안을 지지했다가 보수당에서 제동이 걸렸다.[36]애쉬워스와 걸링 모두 유럽의회 중도우파 유럽국민당(European People Party) 소속이었다.

그러나 5월 10일 2019년 유럽선거에 출마하지 않기로 한 걸링은 "분명히 남서부 잔류당의 선두"라며 남서부 잔류 지지자들에게 자민당 표를 독려했다.[37]Girling과 Change UK는 후에 그녀가 MEP의 멤버나 멤버 중 한 명이 된 적이 없다고 말했다.[38]

앞서 지난 5월 15일에는 조셉 루소를 트윗 논란에 이어 스코틀랜드에서 당의 유력 후보로 교체했던 데이비드 맥도날드가 탈당해 지지자들에게 스코틀랜드 자유민주당에 투표할 것을 독려했다.[47]사우스웨스트잉글랜드의 유력 후보인 레이첼 존슨은 더 타임스와의 인터뷰에서 당을 "싱크선"이라고 표현하며 지도체제를 비판하고 체인지UK는 "끔찍한" 이름이라고 말했다.[48]

사임 발표 직전 기고문에서 스티븐 부시 뉴스테이트먼은 알렌과 우문나를 포함한 자유민주당과의 통합을 지지하는 집단, 개프스, 레슬리, 라이언, 수브리 등 자유민주당에 이념적으로 동조하지 않는 집단, 그리고 수이탈한 집단 등 당내의 세 가지 관점을 설명했다.경쟁 정당으로의[60] 전환이 어려울 수 있는 노동당과 보수당 탈당자들을 끌어들일 수 있는 느슨한 무소속 의원 모임으로 되돌아가는 것으로 보도되었다 – 또 다른 뉴 스테이츠맨 기사는 슈커가 이 그룹에 속해 있다고 밝혔다.[61]파이낸셜 타임스는 알렌이 긴장 완화를 위해 임시 지도자로 선출된 가운데, 두 사람 모두 당내 주도세력을 다투던 우문나와 레슬리 사이에 오랫동안 갈라져 있었다고 묘사했다.[57]

Change.org과 이름 분쟁 및 이름 변경

당 등록 당시 청원 사이트인 Change.org은 브랜드화에 도전하겠다고 발표해 정체성을 '탈(脫)[69]화'한 것으로 봤다.자신을 Change UK라고 발표한 직후, 수브리는 의회에서 우연히 그 당을 "Change.org"이라고 불렀다.[70]홈페이지에서 고소하겠다는 협박으로 당은 7월 5일 승인된 [71][72]'변화를 위한 독립단체'로 이름을 바꿔달라는 2019년 6월 13일 선거관리위원회에 신청했다.[73]

2019년 총선 및 등록 취소

2019년 총선을 앞두고 경쟁할 의석은 각각 수브리, 개피스, 레슬리가 재선을 노리고 있던 브록스토우, 일포드 사우스, 노팅엄 이스트뿐이라고 발표했다.[74][75]코피와 라이언은 재선을 지지하지 않았다.[76][77]자유민주당은 브록스토우에서 수브리에 대항하지 않을 것이라고 발표했다.[78]

2019년 12월 12일 선거에서, 세 명의 후보 모두 의석을 잃었다.수브리와 가페스는 3위를 차지했고 레슬리는 4위를 차지했다.수브리가 8.5%로 가장 높은 득표율을 보였다.전 의원 6명 중 알렌은 선거에 출마하지 않았고 슈커는 무소속 후보로, 나머지 4명은 자유민주당을 지지했다.버거가 31.9%로 2위를 차지하며 다른 선거구인 핀슐리와 골더스 그린에서 모두 의석을 잃었다.[79]

수브리는 2019년 12월 19일 자신들의 운영위원회가 선거관리위원회에 등록을 취소하고 변경독립단 폐쇄 절차를 시작하기로 합의했다고 발표했다.[80]이 당은 트위터를 통해 "영국의 망가진 정치에 스포트라이트를 비춘 것이 옳았다.그러나 지금 국회에서 아무런 발언권이 없는 상태에서 우리는 당을 정리하는 과정을 시작한다.우리와 함께 서주신 모든 분들께 감사드린다"[81]고 말했다.그 당은 2020년 7월 5일 선거관리위원회에 정식으로 등록이 취소되었다.[82]

반응

노동당

2019년 2월 19일 제러미 코빈 노동당 대표는 노동당을 떠나는 하원의원들의 행동에 "실망스럽다"는 반응을 보였다.[13][83]존 맥도넬 노동당 그림자 총리는 무소속 의원들이 노동당 의원으로 선출된 만큼 사퇴하고 재보선과 싸워야 할 '책임'이 있다며 새 강령을 위해 유권자들의 동의를 구해야 한다고 말했다.[13]다른 노동당 인사들은 톰 왓슨 부대표가 추가 탈당을 막기 위해 당의 변화를 간청하는 등 성찰을 강조했다.[84]모멘텀의 창시자인 존 랜스먼은 버거가 겪은 "혐오와 학대" 때문에 버거에 대해 "개인적인 동정"을 가졌다고 말했다.그러나 다른 6명의 노동당 의원들은 코빈의 지도력에 반대하는 불평분자들이었다.[13]

자유민주당

구조와 목적

리더십

그룹 결성 당시 그룹 소집자로 가빈 슈커가, 대변인으로는 추카 우문나가 이름을 올렸다.[127][128]우문나는 "우리 그룹의 모든 구성원들이...리더십을 제공해야 할 책임"이라고 말했다.[128]정당 등록을 위해서는 정식 지도자가 있어야 한다.앨런은 2019년 3월 29일 당이 공식 구성될 때 9월 당대회에서 상임대표를 선출하겠다는 취지로 임시대표로 임명됐다.[129]앨런이 6월 4일 당을 떠나자 안나 수브리가 리더 역할을 맡았다.[130]
