기원1930년대에 플로리다의 윈터 헤이븐에서 처음 성장했고 1951년 플로리다 주 원예협회에서 인정을 받았다.

브로그덴(또는 브로그돈) 아보카도는 플로리다에서 유래된 아보카도의 이름난 품종이다.

역사

원조 나무는 1930년대 플로리다주 윈터헤븐의 톰 W. 브로그덴의 숲에 심은 씨앗에서 자라났는데, '브로그덴'은 멕시코식 경운기와 서인도식 경운기의 교차점이 낳은 결과였을 것이다.[1]

'브로그든'은 노스캐롤라이나에서 겨울을 나기 위해 모종을 심는 것으로 알려졌을 때 처음 주목을 받았다.[2]이 품종의 이름은 1951년 플로리다 주 원예학회에서 발간한 것으로,[3] 차갑고 딱딱하며 특유의 짙은 피부색과 뛰어난 풍미를 인정받게 되었다.피부가 얇아 상업적 잠재력은 크지 않았지만 아보카도가 생존하기 위해서는 무엇보다 냉기가 필요한 플로리다 지역에서 자랄 수 있도록 '브로그덴'을 추천했다.

오늘날 '브로그덴' 나무는 플로리다와 아보카도가 재배될 수 있는 다른 주 모두에서 여전히 번식하여 보육원으로 팔리고 있다.'브로그든' 나무는 플로리다주[4] 홈스테드에 있는 플로리다 대학교 열대 연구 교육 센터와 홈스테드에 있는 마이애미 데이드 과일 앤 스파이스 공원 소장품에도 심어져 있다.[5]

설명

'브로그덴' 나무는 B형 꽃을 생산한다.그 과일은 배 모양이며, 평균 무게는 1파운드도 안 된다.그 맛은 해스처럼 풍성하고 견과하다.피부는 얇고 성숙기에 짙은 퍼플 색(흔히 검은 색으로 표현된다.과일 생산은 대부분의 아보카도 품종에 비해 평균적이며, 플로리다에서는 일반적으로 7월부터 9월까지 열매가 성숙한다.[6]
