Squid giant synapse오징어 거대 시냅스는 오징어에서 발견되는 화학 시냅스다. 그것은 자연에서 가장 큰 화학적 접합점이다.

오징어 거대 시냅스(그림 1)는 1939년 존 자커리 영에 의해 처음 인정받았다. 그것은 오징어의 근육 맨틀의 후벽에 있는 중간선 양쪽에 있는 스텔라이트 갱단에 놓여 있다. 이 시냅스의 활성화는 맨틀 근육질의 동기적 수축을 유발하여 맨틀에서 물의 분사물을 강제적으로 배출하게 한다. 이 물 추진력은 오징어가 물 속을 빠르게 움직일 수 있게 하고, 심지어 포식자로부터 벗어나기 위해 수면을 뛰어 넘기도 한다.
맨틀에 전달되는 신호는 세 개의 거대한 뉴런으로 구성된 체인을 통해 순차적으로 전달된다. 첫 번째 것은 눈의 중심인 복측 마그노셀라 로브에 위치한다. 모든 감각계를 수용하는 중앙집적 다지관의 역할을 하며 대칭 뉴런(I) 두 개로 구성된다. 그들은 차례로 등측 마그노셀룰러 로브와 (II)의 2차 뉴런(양쪽에 하나씩)에 접촉하고, 차례로 스텔라테 강골(III, 맨틀의 양쪽에 하나씩)의 3차 거대 액손에 접촉한다. 이 후자는 앨런 호지킨과 앤드류 헉슬리의 작품이 유명하게 만든 거대한 액손이다. 각 2차축은 강낭에 분기하여 모든 3차축에 접촉한다. 따라서 관련 감각 입력에 관한 정보는 두팔강낭(오징어의 뇌)의 감지 기관에서 수축기 근육 맨틀(제 3차 거대 액손에 의해 직접 활성화됨)으로 전달된다.

전기생리학
모든 화학 시냅스가 어떻게 기능하는지에 대한 많은 필수 요소들이 오징어 거대 시냅스를 연구함으로써 처음 발견되었다. 초기의 전기생리학 연구는 시험관내 전 시냅스 단자와 후시냅스 단자에서 동시에 세포내 기록을 함으로써 이 시냅스에서 전달의 화학적 성격을 입증했다(불록 & 하기와라 1957, 하기와라 & 타사키 1958, 타케우치 & 타케우치 1962). 이후 고전적인 실험은 작용 전위가 없을 때 전송이 발생할 수 있음을 입증했다(Bloedel et al. 1966, Katz & Miledi 1967, Kusano, Livengood & Werman 1967). 시냅스 전달에 대한 칼슘 가설은 칼슘의 평형전위에서는 송신기가 방출되지 않는다는 것을 보여줌으로써 이 시냅스에서 직접 입증되었다(Katz & Miledi 1967). 따라서 트랜스미엄 전기장의 변화가 아닌 칼슘 진입은 송신기 방출을 담당한다(Llianas et al. 1981,[not specific enough to verify] Augustine, Charlton & Smith 1985). 이러한 준비는 송신기 방출을 위한 분자 및 세포 생물학적 기초 연구에 계속 가장 유용하다. 다른 중요한 새로운 포유류 준비물은 현재 홀드의 칼릭스와 같은 연구를 위해 이용할 수 있다.
