그래미상 최우수 레게 앨범상은 1985년 제정돼 원래 그라모폰 어워즈라고 불리던 시상식인 그래미 어워드에서 레게 음악 장르의 수준 높은 작품을 위한 레코딩 아티스트에게 수여하는 상이다.[1]미국 국립음반예술과학아카데미는 "음반 판매나 차트 포지션에 관계없이, 예술적 성취, 기술력, 음반 산업에서의 전반적인 우수성"을 인정하기 위해 매년 수여하는 시상식에서 여러 부문의 영예를 수여한다.[2]
원래 그래미상 베스트 레게 레코딩으로 불렸던 이 영예는 적격 노래나 앨범에 대해 아티스트들에게 수여되었다.자메이카 그룹 블랙 우후루는 1985년에 첫 번째 상을 받았다.1992년 시상식을 시작으로 상명이 베스트 레게 앨범으로 바뀌었다.2002년부터는 공연예술가 외에도 엔지니어, 믹서, 프로듀서에게 상이 수여되는 경우가 많았다.제52회 그래미 어워즈 부문 해설가이드에 따르면 대상 작품은 루트 레게, 댄스홀, 스카 음악 등 보컬 또는 악기 레게 앨범 '새로 녹음한 음악의 최소 51% 재생 시간 포함'이다.[3]

2010년 논란
