배경

존 토리의 사임과 그에 따른 공석

토리는 2014년 시장 선거에서 처음으로 당선되었고, 2018년2022년에 재선되었습니다.2023년 2월 10일 토론토 스타는 코로나19 팬데믹 기간 동안 사무실에서 여성 직원과 나눈 관계에 대해 시장에게 일련의 질문을 보냈습니다.토리는 "판단에 심각한 오류를 범했다"고 인정하면서 혐의를 확인했습니다.[4]토리는 이날 오후 토론토 시장직을 사임하겠다는 의사를 밝혔습니다.[4]

시 서기실은 공천 기간을 2023년 4월 3일에 열고, 5월 12일에 마감하도록 권고하고, 6월 26일에 보궐선거를 치르겠다고 발표했습니다.[15][16]지난 3월 29일 시의회에서 시장직이 공식 공석으로 선포됐고 보궐선거 확정을 위한 보궐선거가 치러졌습니다.[17]
