E-Theses Online Service(ETHOS)는 영국 국립도서관 대영도서관이 제공하는 전자논문의 서지 데이터베이스 및 연합 카탈로그다.[1][2][3][4]2018년 3월 현재 EThOS는 140개 이상의 영국 고등교육기관에서 수여하는 약 48만 건의 박사논문에 대한 접근을 제공하며,[5] 매달 약 3000건의 새로운 논문 기록이 추가된다.[6][7][8][9][10]

EThOS 서비스

스티븐 호킹 박사가 높이[11] 평가한 1966년 논문 '우주 확장의 속성'은 EThOS에 의해 지수화되었다.[12]
노벨상 수상자인 도로시 호지킨의 1937년 논문 X선 결정학과 스테롤의[13] 화학은 EThOS에 의해 색인화되었다.
Brian May의 2008년 논문 12궁도 먼지 구름의[14] 방사상 속도에 대한 조사는 EThOS에 의해 지수화된다.

ETHOS는 논문 데이터와 메타데이터를 기록하며, 이 데이터는 기본[4] 및 고급 검색어로 검색할 수 있다.[17]

EThOS에 기록된 데이터

EThOS가 지수화한 논문들은 최소한 논문 제목, 저자, 수상 기관과 날짜를 가지고 있다.[18] 예를 들어 Brian[16] Cox와 Elizabeth Blackburn의 박사 논문들.논문 추상화, 박사 자문, 스폰서, 다른 데이터베이스와의 상호 연결 및 논문 자체의 전문과 같은 선택적 추가 메타데이터가 포함될 수 있다.[17]

2017년 9월 현재 EThOS 웹사이트는 디지털화된 약 16만 건의 영국 박사학위 논문 전문을 공개하고 있으며, 예를 들어 David Beerling과[19] Yadvinder Malhi의 논문[20] 전문은 EThOS에 자유롭게 등록하면 접근할 수 있다.또한 수상기구의 기관 리포지토리에 대한 링크에 의해 개방형 액세스가 제공되는데, 예를 들어 존 설스턴의 박사 논문의[21] 전문은 케임브리지 대학의 아폴로 리포지토리에 대한 EThOS의 링크를 따라가면 이용할 수 있다.2015년부터 EThOS는 권한 제어 및 다음과 같은 고유 식별자를 통합했다.[7]

박사학위 자문 메타데이터는 academictree.org,[29][30] 위키다타[31][32], 수학 계보 프로젝트와 같은 학문적 족보에 사용될 수 있다.위키다타의 학문적 족보는 박사학위 고문 관계(Property:P184)를 이용하여 구축된다.[31]

EThOS 메타데이터 검색 중

존재하는 경우 메타데이터를 검색 기준으로 사용할 수 있다.그래서 예를 들어, 기본 검색 외에도 고급 검색 시설은 사용자가 출판 연도별 논문 검색, 수상 기관, 저자 이름, 성, 논문 제목, 박사 자문 및 기타 다양한 메타데이터별로 논문을 검색할 수 있게 해준다.[4][17]또한 ETHOS의 데이터는 OAI([33]Open Archives Initiative), DataCite[34] 및 API(Application Programming Interface)의 PMH(Protocol for Metadata Harvesting)를 사용하여 프로그래밍 방식으로(기계별로) 액세스할 수 있다.[35]

포함된 논문 유형

EThOS는 철학박사 논문 색인뿐만 아니라 다음과 같은 다른 종류의 박사학위 기록도 보유하고 있다.

석사학위 논문(MPHIL), 석사학위 논문(MRES), 석사학위 논문(MSC), 석사학위 논문(MA)은 EThoS에 의해 색인화되지 않는다.명예학위 역시 일반적으로 실제 작성 논문이 없기 때문에 포함되지 않는다.

개발 및 연락

ETHOS는 영국 연구도서관(RLUK)과 지스크(옛 공동정보시스템위원회)의 자금지원을 받아 영국 전역의 고등교육기관(HEI)과 제휴하여 개발되었으며, 2009년 1월 출범하였다.[1][44]대영도서관의 EThOS 직원은 업무시간 중에 이메일, 트위터[45], 대영도서관에서 직접 연락할 수 있다.
