이 유전자는 DAZ 유전자 계열의 일원으로 인간 Y-크롬질 아즈오스페르미아 인자(AZF)의 후보물질이다. 그것의 표현은 특히 정조세포에서 전생균세포로 제한된다. 그것은 정자생식에 중요한 RNA 결합 단백질을 암호화한다. 이 유전자의 4개의 복사본은 P2 Palindromic conversion 내에서 Y 염색체에서 발견된다; 한 쌍의 유전자는 P2 Palindrome의 일부분이고 두 번째 쌍은 P1 Palindrome의 일부분이다. 각 유전자는 DAZ 반복이라고 불리는 72bp exon을 포함한 2.4kb의 반복을 가지고 있다.
