보드맨 석탄 발전소는 오리건 주 보드먼에 위치한 석탄 화력발전소였다.이 시설은 명판 용량이 550메가와트(MW)로 포틀랜드 제너럴일렉트릭이 소유하고 있다.[1]2010년, 이 발전소는 오리건 주에 유일하게 남아 있는 석탄 발전소로 시에라 클럽과 같은 환경 단체들이 폐쇄를 요구하는 가운데 주 내에서 가장 큰 온실가스 배출원이기 때문에 지역 언론의 많은 관심을 받았다.[2][3]

2020년 10월 포틀랜드 제너럴일렉트릭은 석탄발전소가 영구 폐쇄돼 2022년부터 철거될 것이라고 발표해 오리건주의 석탄화력 발전 유산이 종식됐다.[7]

배경

보드먼 공장은 1977년 청정 공기법 개정 전 2년 전인 1975년에 허가를 받았는데, 이 개정안은 발전소가 더 엄격한 배출 기준을 충족하도록 요구했을 것이다.[8]가동 당시 이 발전소는 고정 SO2 배출의 65%를, 오리건 주에서는 CO 배출량의2 7%를 차지했다.[9][10]

보드맨 공장은 2009년 전력의 15%를 생산하는 PGE의 가장 큰 발전소 중 하나이다.[11]

포틀랜드 제너럴 일렉트릭의 원래 계획에는 2040년까지 공장을 가동하는 것이 포함되었는데, 이는 연방 및 주 정부의 청정 공기 표준을 준수하기 위해 2017년까지 5억 달러 이상의 오염 방지 장비를 공장에 설치해야 할 것이다.그러나 2010년 초, PGE는 2020년에 그것을 폐쇄하는 보드맨 공장의 대체 계획을 고려하고 있다고 발표했다.[12][13][14]
