이 유전자에 의해 코드된 단백질은 핵호흡인자 1(NRF1)과의 직접적인 상호작용을 통해 부분적으로 미토콘드리아 생물 형성을 활성화할 수 있는 단백질인 PPAR-감마 공동활성화제 1(PPARGC1/PGC-1)과 유사하다. 이 단백질은 NRF1과 상호작용하는 것으로 나타났다. 증식 [7] 신호에 반응하여 NRF1을 통해 미토콘드리아 생물 형성을 활성화하는 PPARGC1의 기능적 친척으로 생각된다.
