NGC 884(일명 χ 페르세이)는 페르세우스 별자리에 7640광년[2] 떨어진 곳에 위치한 열린 성단이다.이중 성단의 가장 동쪽에 NGC 869가 있으며, NGC 869와 884는 각각 h와 χ 페르세이로 지정되는 경우가 많다.[4]이 성단은 약 1400만년[2] 된 것이다.페르세우스 OB1 협회에 위치한 두 성단은 불과 몇 백 광년 떨어져 있는 물리적으로 서로 가까이 위치해 있다.이 성단은 히파르쿠스에 의해 처음 기록되었고, 따라서 고대부터 알려져 왔다.
이중 성단은 아마추어 천문학자들이 가장 좋아하는 성단이다.이러한 밝은 성단은 종종 작은 망원경으로 사진 찍거나 관찰된다.쉽게 찾을 수 있는 이 성단은 겨울 은하수에서 더 밝은 조각으로 페르세우스와 카시오페아의 별자리 사이에 보조가 없는 눈으로 보인다.이중 성단은 아마추어 관찰을 위한 천문학적 물체의 카탈로그인 콜드웰 카탈로그에도 포함되었다.[3]
작은 망원경에서 이 성단은 풍부한 항성 영역에 위치한 밝은 별들의 아름다운 집합체로 나타난다.밝은 파란색 별이 지배하는 이 클러스터에는 시각적 흥미를 더하는 오렌지색 별도 몇 개 있다.두 클러스터가 함께 어우러져 장관을 이루는 저확장 뷰를 제공한다.
