이 유전자에 의해 코드된 단백질 은 막결합형 I 이노시톨 1,4,5-트리인산(InsP3) 5-포스파타아제이다. InsP3 5-인산가수분해효소 Ins(1,4,5)P3는 세포내 칼슘을 동원하여 다양한 [6] 자극에 대한 세포반응을 매개하는 제2의 메신저 역할을 한다.
