Gliese 521은 북쪽 개똥벌레자리에 있는 쌍성이다.이 주성은 아직 확인되지 않은 동반성을 가지고 있는 것으로 의심받고 있다.이 시스템은 시차 측정치에 근거해 태양으로부터 43.6광년 거리에 위치해 있지만, -65.6km/s의 [4]반지름 속도로 가까워지고 있다.이 행성은 176,[8]900년 후에 태양으로부터 15.70광년 떨어져 있을 것으로 예측된다.이 별은 겉보기 등급은 +10[2].26이고 절대 등급은 [4]10.24로 육안으로 볼 수 없을 정도로 어둡다.
주성은 M1V [3]등급의 M형 주계열성이다.이것은 태양의 크기와 질량의 절반밖에 되지 않습니다.이 별은 0.85km/s의[4] 회전속도와 49.5일의 [6]회전주기로 느리게 회전하고 있다.이 별은 태양에 비해 금속 함량이 낮다.이 행성은 유효 온도 [4]3,493 K의 광구에서 태양 광도의 3%[5]만을 방출하고 있습니다.
2013년 E. Jodar와 동료들이 희미한 항성 동반성을 발표했다.동반자는 1차에서 352.1°±1.4°의 위치 각도를 따라 521ms의 각도 간격을 가진다.이는 7.24±[9]0.14AU의 예상 이격에 해당합니다.
행성 동반자?
Marcy & Benitz(1989)[10]에 따르면, 최소 질량이 목성의 12배(e=0.6)인 거대한 행성 물체가 매우 이심률이 높은 궤도에서 존재할 가능성을 추측할 수 있는 주기가 510일이라고 한다.지금까지 그 행성은 확인되지 않았다.2013-2017년 동안 항성의 반경 속도 연구는 처음에는 유망한 신호를 발견했지만, 추가 데이터가 수집되면서 사라졌고 대신 자기 활동에 [11]기인했다.
