SN 2008ax는 상호작용하는 은하 NGC 4490에 [3]있는 헬륨이 풍부한 Ib형 중심핵 붕괴 초신성입니다.2008년 3월 3일 LOSS에 의해[5], 3월 4일 이타가키 [6]고이치에 의해 독립적으로 발견되었다.현장은 발견되기 6시간 전에 감시를 받았기 때문에 [3]폭발이 일어나는 시간을 제한했다.그것은 2008년 [7]세 번째로 밝은 초신성이었다.B밴드의 밝기는 폭발 [3]후 약 20일 후에 최고조에 달했다.이 사건에서 X선 방출이 검출되었으며, 이는 초신성 방출과 별 주위 [8]물질로부터의 충격 가열의 결과일 가능성이 높다.
