Ras 관련 단백질 Rab-8A는 인체에서 RAB8A ^[5]^[6]^[7]유전자에 의해 암호화되는 단백질이다.

기능.

이 유전자에 의해 코드된 단백질은 RAS 슈퍼패밀리의 일원으로 평균 200개의 아미노산 크기를 가진 작은 GTP/GDP 결합 단백질이다.RAB/YPT 계열의 RAS 관련 단백질은 소포체에서 골지 및 혈장막으로 단백질을 운반하는 역할을 할 수 있다.이 단백질은 개 RAB8, 마우스 MEL, 마우스 YPT1 단백질과 각각 97%, 96%, 51%의 유사성을 공유하며 모든 RAS 단백질에 존재하는 4개의 GTP/GDP 결합 부위를 포함하고 있다.이 단백질의 추정 이펙터 결합 부위는 RAB/YPT 단백질의 그것과 유사하다.단, 이 단백질은 많은 RAS 슈퍼패밀리의 특징이지만 YPT1 및 대부분의 RAB 단백질에는 없는 C 말단 CAAX 모티브를 포함한다.이 유전자는 흑색종 세포주로부터 변형 유전자로 분리되었지만, MEL과 악성 흑색종 사이의 연관성은 증명되지 않았다.이 종양 유전자는 염색체 19p13.^[7]1의 MY09B 원위 800kb 위치에 있다.
