NGC 1407은 에리다누스의 타원 은하다.지구로부터 7천 6백만 광년 거리에 있다.에리다누스 그룹의 일부인 NGC 1407 그룹에서 가장 밝은 은하로, NGC 1407은 가장 밝은 은하이다.[2]NGC 1400, 그룹 중 두 번째로 밝은 그룹은 11.8 아크민 떨어져 있다.

NGC 1407은 X선 발광으로 고온 가스 Fe 풍요로움 [3]및 반복적인 무선 폭발의 증거를 가지고 있다.[4]은하의 중심 영역에는 평균 나이 12.0 ± 1.1 Gyrs로 금속이 풍부하고 α 원소의 초극성 분비가 있는 현재 오래된 별들이 있다.관측 결과 NGC 1407은 최근 강력한 항성 형성 활동을 거치지 않았다.[5]이 은하는 속도 분산에 근거하여 질량 1.12 ± 0.4억의 태양 질량을 가진 초거대 블랙홀을 가지고 있다.[6]
